Questions for Georgia Power Regarding 2020 Lenox Rd.

Qustions Regarding Site Choice:

  1.  What other sites were considered for this substation?
  2. What are the reasons the other sites were not chosen?
  3. Were environmental impact studies performed on all the other sites you onsidered?
  4. How did these results compare with the results for the Morningsidesite?
  5. Since EMF¹s are classified as Class 2B Carcinogens, like asbestos, why would you chose to place a substation in a residential neighborhood?
  6. What were the results of your study on upgrading existing substations?
  7. What percentage of the electrical power from this site will go to homes and businesses in Morningside?
  8. What percentage will be for customers outside of Morningside?
  9. Of the areas that would be served by this substation, which area¹s needs are greatest?
  10. Has an environmental impact study been performed?  What were the results?
  11. 11. How much of the proposed site involves wetlands or floodplain?
  12. How far would the proposed substation be from South Peachtree Creek?
  13. This site is in a neighborhood, near a major water tributary (S. Peachtree) and it¹s floodplain / wetland area, and also very near Wildwood Urban Forest, Atlanta¹s new nature preserve.  What could possibly make this site so desirable?

 If the proposed substation were built:

  1. What are the plans for placement of the substation?  Drawn plans should be available to the neighborhood on Feb. 25th, 2003.
  2. Would the substation ever be enlarged should it be built at this site?
  3. What other visible equipment in the form of poles, transmission lines,etc will initially or eventually be installed in connection with this substation?
  4. What would Georgia Power do to compensate the homeowners directly impacted (2010 and 2004 Lenox Rd.)?
  5. What would Georgia Power do to compensate those homeowners near the site whose property values will decrease should this substation be built?
  6. What will Georgia Power do with our neighborhood entrance monument in front of the 2020 Lenox Road property?
  7. What would Georgia Power do to compensate the neighborhood of Morningside Lenox Park for placement of a substation just inside an entry into our residential neighborhood?
  8. Would Georgia Power be willing to sit the substation on the site so that maximum buffer layers could be placed between the substation and the street and surrounding homes?  Example: brick wall, mature trees, shrubs, then perenials.
  9. Would Georgia Power be willing to place mature trees and shrubs in the buffer areas to maximize screening of substation?
  10. How much money will Georgia Power be willing to place in escrow for routine maintenance and upkeep of the buffer area?
  11. Would Georgia Power sound insulate each unit in the substation? 
  12. How much money will Georgia Power be willing to spend on sidewalks and good lighting surrounding the area should the substation be built?
