Morningside Lenox Park Association's Traffic Committee is run by residents and for residents.  We need your participation!  The committee meets the second Tuesday of each month, 7:30 PM, at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

The objective of our committee is to make Morningside-Lenox Park a neighborhood that is safe to walk in and drive in, for residents and for the general population.  We strive to accomplish this objective by educating residents on safety and traffic issues, working with the city in modifying existing street structures and signs to maximize safety, and working with the police to encourage maximum enforcement of our traffic and safety laws.

Traffic Calming Project
We are currently applying to funding sources for implementation of the engineering firm URS' recommendations in our 2001 Collector Street Study.  Individual street meetings are occurring to present the changes to residents.  You  can find the drawings for the Calming Project here.

Other activities of the Traffic Committee:

  • Quarterly meetings with the City's Bureau of Traffic and Transportation, to make requests for safety enhancements and repairs;
  • Regular meetings with the police to encourage enforcement and learn how citizens can help the police to be effective;
  • Neighborhood Slow-Downs;
  • Recording license plates of speeders using the Laser gun;
  • Regular communication with, and directing special situations and requests to Councilperson Anne Fauver's office;
  • Working with PEDS (Pedestrians Educating Drivers about Safety) to promote pedestrian safety and access
  • Communication with school and PTA groups to ensure that we include each other in plans.

FOR SPEED DETECTION ENFORCEMENT
Please click here to download the TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT form to request speed detection enforcement.  Please be as specific as possible.  Atlanta Police can use Laser to apprehend speeders only if the street is approved by the State of Georgia.  If the street is not approved, you are asking the police to use other measures to curtail speeding.  Your name, address, and phone number are requested to prevent frivolous requests.

FOR PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
See the PEDS web site. (Pedestrians Educating Drivers on Safety)
