Announcements *****************

***Students will not have to make up the school day they missed on January 24, 2003.  They still have a holiday scheduled for February 17th, President's Day. Employees who missed the day will make it up.  Official procedures for the adjusted work year will be sent at a later date.

*** Princeton Review SAT Prep Course is being offered at Grady commencing on March 22 thru May 1, 2003 to prepare juniors to take the May 3 SAT I test. We want to be able to offer two sections - one from 3:30-6:30 p.m. and one from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and on four Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (excluding spring break week). The cost will be $400.00 per student. If you wish to get your name on the list, please contact Mr. Joseph Arnold, the junior class counselor at 404-853-4000 ext 217. One section is already filled. Eight more students are needed to complete the second section.

*** The Advanced Placement (AP) Program gives students the opportunity to take college-level studies while in high school. AP course applications have been distributed to students. Applications are due February 19. Additional advanced placement guides are available in the media center or from the student's English teacher

***Youth Radio Commentaries are running every Tuesday at 6:35 a.m. on WABE-FM. The commentaries began on 1/28. The students who taped commentaries are: Bryan Dumas ("Sports Inspiration"), Clara Green ("Political Apathy"), Alex Daniels ("Violent Video Games"), Thanh Vu ("Band"), Khalilah Womack ("High School"), Kiah Vernon ("Siblings"), Brandon Sheats ("Debate"), Alice Bufkin ("Tarzan"), Sarah Taylor ("House Fire"), Emily Koehl ("Trip to Europe") and Phuong Le ("New Citizen").

Help********************

*** Help Needed The attendance office would like a parent to volunteer each Thursday to help call the homes of students who are required to attend Saturday detention. The calls, will be a reminder to the parents and students to report Saturday morning, and should take no more than 1/1/2 hours. Interested persons should contact Mr. Foreman at 404-853-4000 ext 224.

***The Health Occupations Students of America thanks everyone who donated coats and blankets to the HOSA coat/blanket drive. We donated approximately 50 coats, 2 blankets and some clothes to the Our Sister's House Women and Children's Shelter.  Should anyone need volunteer hours, they are looking for after school tutors, 5 people to help with the evening meals and people to read to the children. ***Grady High School will host six French students and one chaperone from April 18-28. We tentatively have homes for everyone except three girl. If you would like to be a host family, contact Naomi Grishman (ngrishman@mindspring.com). or 404.853.4733)

*** BOOK DONATIONS NEEDED - The Interact Club will be holding a book sale to raise money for the African Library Project, which is helping to build a library in Rwanda. So that we can raise as much money as possible for the project, the Interact Club is asking for book donations. Although all donations will be greatly appreciated, classic, children, mystery, health-related, reference, and how-to books are ideal. Donations can be sent to Ms. Whitten's room, room #302 through March.
